Webinar details
The rise of low cost Internet of Things platforms and 3D-printing technologies has given rise to innovation in a multitude of areas.  With a wide array of sensors befitting weather measurement, and the subsequent rise of inexpensive, high quality 3d-printers, weather stations have made for fertile ground for weather measurement in a variety of contexts from K-12 education, community-driven citizen science and basic research.  In this talk, we will describe our work with IoTwx, an IoT-based 3d-printed weather station that provides a flexible platform for research, education, and citizen science.  We will expand on the opportunity IoTwx represents to expose K-12 and undergraduates to IoT, data science, edge computing and engineering concepts, in addition to its potential to augment research for high-quality, low-cost data collection.

More about the speakers
Keith Maull is a data scientist and software engineer in the research library at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO. His core research lies at the intersection of scholarly metrics, research impact and research traceability. Recently, however, he has been expanding his work into strategies to understand how IoT data platforms, education and citizen science might improve the impact of scientific research where the data exists by empowering the communities to be full participants in producing and . Keith holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Agbeli “Ag” Ameko has 20 years of experience in commercial weather forecasting, international business development, renewable energy, sensors, and data science. Ag is working on CISL's user-friendly 3D Printed Weather Station platform with Raspberry Pi embedded weather forecasting for use in education, outreach, and field programs. He enjoys training for and participating in ultramarathons, ski mountaineering, and ocean races in fun places around the world.
