ESIP Update: We are hiring a community director! 2 weeks until the ESIP Meeting & Call for Research as Art closes 7/6

Good Morning – 

Happy 4th of July week! I hope that you have some cool plans for what seems to be a hot week ahead for most of the country. Speaking of heat, many people have asked why 2018 ESIP Summer Meeting is in Tucson, AZ this summer. ESIP has long-standing members first with the Arid Land Research Institute led by Chuck Hutchinson and then with the Arizona Geologic Survey and iPlant, now CyVerse more recently. When I did the site visit in May, I was astounded by the wealth of data-related research resources from the Tree Ring Lab to the Mirror Lab to the Science Center and HiRise Mars research that are all on campus.

The early rate ended on Saturday, but if you were only holding out because of heat, the discount code ‘Heat‘ will role back the rate to the member and non-member rates for the rest of the week.  

Research as Art submissions will close this Friday. This is a chance to share just a figure from your poster as art or other creative expression of your work. This will be our third Research as Art event and it is amazing every time to see the amount of creative energy and talent. Don't be intimidated if you don't consider yourself an ‘artist'. 

Finally, a reminder that ESIP is hiring a new Community Director. This person will work closely with all ESIP collaboration areas, support our online collaborative tools and help make them and all of the ESIP content more find-able and useable. If you know of a good candidate please pass the job opp along. We will start reviewing applications right after the summer meeting, but the position will stay open until filled.
