Ignite@AGU Videos, NEW Lab Projects, NGS AI Grants, GeoWeaver PaperHighlights from your favorite virtual Earth Science Lab.

Hi All –

I am interrupting the normal Lab Update to acknowledge the uncertainty and disruption going on across the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a virtual organization, ESIP is skilled at supporting our distributed community remotely and we are happy to be a resource and offer up the ESIP platform as you navigate increased remote participation and try to turn in-person activities into virtual ones.

Also note that the call for sessions for the 2020 ESIP Summer Meeting to be held July 14th-17th is open. The meeting is currently planned as a hybrid meeting with in-person and remote capabilities for all sessions. We will continue to monitor and adjust planning, if travel and group-size restrictions extend beyond mid-May.

Thank you for your contributions to ESIP-
Erin on behalf of ESIP Staff

ESIP Lab Funded Geoweaver Paper Published

ESIP Lab PI Ziheng Sun recently published a paper about the Geoweaver Project, an advanced cyberinfrastructure for managing hybrid geoscientific AI workflows. Check it out here: https://mdpi.com/2220-9964/9/2/119/htm

National Geographic AI for Earth Innovation Grants

To address the many pressing scientific questions and challenges facing our planet, we must increase global understanding of how human activity is affecting natural systems and create a community of change, driven by data and cutting-edge technology. Modern technologies, such as satellite imaging, bioacoustic monitoring, environmental DNA, and genomics, can capture data at a global scale, but also produce massive, complex data sets. Artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing can capitalize on the potential of such data, leading to faster and more meaningful insights and creating the opportunity for transformative solutions.
