As the returning student fellow from 2015 to the ESIP Data Stewardship Committee, I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue to work with the Committee and be able to contribute to its key collaborative areas in 2016.
Particularly, since my academic program and research interests are in the field of scientific data curation, I am especially looking forward to participating in the activities from the Committee's Data Management Training sub-group and the Information Quality Cluster. This year, the Data Management Training sub-group will continue to explore and implement sustainable training resources and infrastructure. This effort will enable the incorporation of the results from the Data Management Training Survey project that I completed last year with the support from the Committee and ESIP. The Information Quality Cluster will also examine further how the Data Stewardship Maturity Matrix and the Data Quality Use Cases can help in establishing guidelines or recommendations for best practices when evaluating data quality. Additionally, I am looking forward to integrating my collaboration experience with the Research Data Archive and the Library at the National Center for Atmospheric Research as well as the Data Observation Network for Earth (DataONE) with my contributions to the Committee, such as by helping in providing case studies to the various activities. Being able to work with the Committee for a second year will give me many more invaluable opportunities to practice the different data curation skills and knowledge that I am learning, as well as allow me to share my lessons learned across the different communities that I am part of.
Outside of study and work, I try to make time for good reads (not restricted to books), walks (urban ones could be fun too!), and cups of tea (always up for trying a new blend). I also appreciate puzzles and stop-motion clay animations. These activities are extra special and enjoyable to me when I am able to share them with friends and family.
