About NEON: The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation charged with designing, constructing, and maintaining NEON under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.
Interesting project: NEON is a continental-scale Observatory for understanding and forecasting the impacts on ecology of climate change, land use change, and invasive species. The Observatory comprises 106 sites (60 terrestrial, 36 aquatic and 10 aquatic experimental) across the United States, utilizing cutting-edge technology that will gather and synthesize continental-scale data over 30 years on the impacts of climate change, land use change and invasive species on natural resources and biodiversity. Once fully operational, NEON data and information will be freely web accessible for science, education, and decision-support purposes.
Reason you participate in ESIP? We see the Federation as an effective forum for obtaining feedback on the technical approaches for creating, archiving, and supplying these products in a manner consistent with community best-practices. We recognize the importance of supplying our data products in a manner that is usable on the technical platforms that are commonly used to query, ingest, and process earth science / environmental science data.
