ESIP UPDATE: 01.02.19

Good Morning ESIP,

Happy 2019! As we hit the ground running this year, we are sharing many new things to be excited about in ESIP, including new members, new community fellows, and new clusters you can join. We look forward to continuing to make data matter with you and hope you do, too.

The ESIP Winter Meeting is just around the corner – now less than 2 weeks away! It promises to be a riveting lineup of talks, breakout sessions, posters, and more. We look forward to seeing many of you in Bethesda and hope that others can join us remotely as well.

As always, if you have any news or announcements for a future ESIP update, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best,
Megan

ESIP Member Highlight: Element 84
Element 84, Inc., which has been an ESIP member since 2014, is a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) that designs and develops scalable software solutions. Their capabilities include agile software development, large-scale cloud systems, data analytics, and UI/UX design. Element 84 is currently working with NASA to build Cumulus, a solution that will eventually store a majority of NASA’s remote sensing archive and will create the foundation for more efficient research and analysis using Earth science data. Learn more about Element 84, including why they participate in ESIP, here. Would you like ESIP to feature your organization in a future ESIP Member Highlight? Contact megancarter@esipfed.org.

Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative
The Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative, a collaboration between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Sustainability, was established to “give anyone working on sustainability issues both knowledge of how to use the cloud and access to datasets that can be combined to offer new insights and drive new solutions.” The Initiative makes weather forecast models, satellite imagery, air quality measurements, and other public datasets more accessible in the cloud, and provides tools for analysis. Check out this blog to see how the Initiative has already enabled exciting new insights.

Amazon Earth Observation Cloud Credits Program Launched
A new collaboration between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) will now allow eligible organizations from developing countries to apply for AWS cloud credits and additional support to host, process, and analyze Earth data needed to promote sustainable development. To learn more, see here.
