ESIP UPDATE: 03.26.18

Hi All –

ESIP was well-represented at the Research Data Alliance Plenary last week with Steve Diggs, ESIP VP, Peter Fox and Mark Parsons, ESIP At-Large Board members and Nancy Hoebelheinrich, primarily wearing her Data Management Training Working Group hat (also Partnership Chair & board member).  This plenary kicked off a new Interest group that ESIP co-chairs, the Earth and Space Science Interest Group. Thanks to Steve for presenting on ESIP's behalf in that session!

This week Annie Burgess, ESIP's Lab Director, is hosting our first synthesis workshop on Earth Data Provenance at University of Washington eScience Institute. The workshop is sponsored by USGS and builds on ideas generated through the PROV challenge and then built out as an incubator award led by Doug Fils and Tom Narock. Results will be shared at the Summer Meeting in July.

Thanks to those who took the time to answer the Monday Update survey last week. If you didn't have a chance to respond last week, it would be helpful if you could take this quick (1 min survey) to help us keep the Update useful. The survey will be open through next Monday.

Thanks & have a good week,

Erin – Executive Director, ESIP

Telecon Highlight:
On Thursday, 4-5:30 ET, the Enabling FAIR Data project is working with ESIP's Data Management Training (DMT) Working Group to plan a second crowdsourcing opportunity for researchers and the research data community to learn more about the kinds of educational resources that are currently available to teach and learn about research data management skills, methods, and practices.

At this second event, they will be looking at the educational resources that were found at the first event and mapping the FAIR data principles to each of them. More information about the format of the online event will be sent closer to the event date.
