Federation News

Register NOW for the ESIP Summer Meeting
NOTE: The Call for Sessions is now open! This Summer, ESIP will be gathering on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington, where 3 days of workshops, breakouts, and a couple great plenary talks will bring 300 Earth science data experts and data users together to solve problems and share the knowledge we've collected about the Earth system. HERE is the REGISTRATION and Call for Sessions LINK

ESIP response to NSF cyberinfrastructure needs RFI
ESIP President, Emily Law, invites you to participate:
“Many in our community have expressed interest in providing inputs to the NSF call for advanced cyberinfrastructure needs:
As the leading community in advancing the use of Earth science data, it is in our interest to provide a consolidated ESIP response to this RFI.
You are invited to contribute to this collective response by using the Loomio platform (in conjunction with Google Doc). The platform promotes shared document editing (Google Docs) and discussion (Google Docs and Loomio) and transparent decision making (Loomio).
Please join us by hopping on: https://www.loomio.org/invitations/70d1c101c699ae5c3a22
In order to meet the RFI submission due date on April 5, 2017, please complete your edits of the Google Docs (thru Loomio) by March 10. That will allow time to complete discussion by March 24, and to finalize by March 31.

Leadership Interest Slack channel invite
Continuing a conversation we started at the ESIP Winter Meeting on leadership, may we suggest a small step for a big impact in your own life, work, team, and field: join our #leadership-interest ESIP slack channel. This channel is a hub for sharing resources, good reads, questions and ideas on the topic of growing in leadership. We'd like to start an informal ‘book club' through the channel, where we agree on a list of books and then read and discuss one each month leading up to the Summer Meeting. All are welcome to join the channel, share your ideas, suggest some books, and grow together. If you are not on the ESIP Slack Team, here is a team INVITE.

2017 ESIP Research as Art Call
This Wednesday (March 22) the call for entries will open (watch ESIP-all, the website, and the Slack team for more info.). Once again at this year’s ESIP Summer Meeting we'll hold a Research as Art event (on the evening of Wednesday, July 26). Our goal is to encourage the ESIP community to use visual media to communicate their data and research; and to think about their research as an ongoing narrative that can be told through visual media. This event is about showing how the ESIP community uses data. You don’t need to consider yourself an artist in order to submit a piece. The idea is to have a range of entries that show the diversity of research done by members of our community, as well as their creativity and the impact of their work, in an engaging and accessible way. ESIP VP, Christine White will be curating the event.

Documentation Cluster: Data2Paper Next Monday
The Documentation Cluster meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 27th at 12:00pm MDT. Fiona Murphy and Neil Jefferies will give us a presentation on Data2Paper. We will have the opportunity to test the service, so please take some time to think about the journals that you and your organization submit to. Please join us for this opportunity to learn how to make sharing the data your publication is based on easier! Data2Paper is a simple ‘one-click’ process where data, metadata and methods detail are transferred from a data repository (via a SWORD-based API and a cloud-based helper app based on the Fedora/Hydra platform) to a relevant publisher platform for publication as a data paper. Meeting information is in our Facebook post.
