Data Management Training Crowdsourcing Event
The Enabling FAIR Data project shepherded by the AGU Data Department, RDA and ESIP's Data Management Training Working Group are planning unique crowdsourcing opportunities for researchers and the research data community to learn more about the kinds of educational resources that are currently available to teach and  learn about research data management skills, methods and practices. The first event is scheduled for Thursday, February 22nd from 9 am – 10:15 am PDT / 12 noon – 1:15 pm EDT.

Call-in details can be found on the ESIP Telecon website at: https://www.esipfed.org/telecons under the “DMTC Crowdsourcing #1” entry. We’ll be looking for educational resources to add to the DMT Clearinghouse that help enable researchers make their data FAIR (Findable – Accessible – Interoperable – Reusable) per the following seminar article: https://www.nature.com/articles/sdata201618.

ESIP + Google Summer of Code
ESIP has been accepted as a mentoring organization for to the Google Summer of Code! This is a fantastic opportunity to develop innovative code with students from around the globe. To participate, you should submit a project idea here ASAP, as students are vetting projects now!

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school.

Science Software Cluster Talk: Adventures in software development for geoscience data entry and discovery
ABSTRACT: As a geologist producing digital geologic maps and databases, and a technical manager for the Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS), National Geothermal Data System (NGDS), and Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance (IEDA), I have been involved in projects developing and utilizing software to automate and document geoscience datasets over more than 25 years. This presentation will discuss several specific software projects and their outcomes (to date). These includes a data entry tool for a prototype USGS-AASG National Geologic Map Database project (C++ development), development of tools for streamlining digital geologic map production at the Arizona Geological Survey (ArcGIS extensions), and metadata catalog development using open source software (Geoportal, CKAN).

Earth Observation Exploitation Platform Hackathon
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is calling for participation in its upcoming Earth Observation Exploitation Platform Hackathon 2018.

The Hackathon builds on results from the recently concluded OGC Testbed-13 initiative, and paves the way for Tested-14 and subsequent initiatives in the context of standards based deployment and execution of applications in cloud environments.

Participation is open to OGC Members and non-members alike, and anyone with experience in cloud and container technology as well as OGC Web services, is urged to participate. For more information on the Hackathon, including how to participate and a schedule of events, visit: go.myogc.org/EOCHack.

Free Workshop on Science Gateways for Molecular Scientists
The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Molecular Sciences Software Institute (MolSSI) will offer a free one-day workshop on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 8 am – 5 pm during the American Chemical Society National Meeting and Expo.

The workshop is for those interested in expanding what they can do through the use or creation of science gateways for molecular modeling, simulations and analysis, and data-driven discovery. Science gateways are Web-based mechanisms for delivering scientific software as a service for enabling scientific collaborations. The workshop will feature gateways, including the Materials Project, Chem Compute, I-TASSER, and SEAGrid, as well as instructions on how to build your own gateway.
