2022 Raskin Scholar is Colette Brown

We are excited to announce that graduate student Colette Brown with the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley is this year's recipient of the Robert G. Raskin Scholarship.

Building Trust in Machine Learning Outputs

In his guest post on ESIP's Merge blog, 2022 Community Fellow Mike Mahoney shares some of the challenges of applying machine learning to remote sensing data as well as a recent success: a new paper from his lab at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Expanding access to the July 2022 ESIP Meeting

We are continuing the Expanding Access Meeting Scholarship. Students can apply through esipfed.org/july22-scholarship by Friday, June 17. Please share the link to help us make the meetings more inclusive and improve access for students from diverse backgrounds. 

ESIP also offers an application to waive or lower meeting registration fees. Anyone can apply through esipfed.org/july22-apply-for-waiver and applications are due this Friday, June 10.

Community forum for NASA’s Transform to Open Science (TOPS) mission (June 9)

The introductory suite of the TOPS open science curricula is OpenCore. The focus of the curricula will give the learners participating a basic understanding of open science, and its ethos, why it benefits them, and how to actively participate in open science communities. All TOPS community meetings (e.g. panels, forums, and workshops) are free and open to all to attend with registration

Lacuna Fund Invites Proposals to Develop Inclusive Climate Datasets (Due July 17)

The two funding tracks focus on machine learning datasets for equitable climate outcomes in climate and energy as well as climate and health. Proposals are due July 17 and the Lacuna Fund website has the full requirements and submission portal.
 

Midwest Big Data Hub: Open call for proposals (Due Aug 1)

Midwest Big Data Hub has issued a call for proposals for “Building Data-Enabled Resilient Communities.” The org invites proposals for collaborative activities that will further develop collaborative cross-sector partnerships through the Hub’s Smart & Resilient Communities Priority Area.
 

iCAS looking for speakers

NCAR is hosting the International Computing in the Atmospheric Sciences Symposium (iCAS) September 11-15, 2022 in Stresa, Italy. They are looking for in-person speakers and people interested can apply via this form and learn more about the gathering on the iCAS website
