If you haven't already, please read and share the recently released job description for ESIP Communications Manager. This is a new position on the team and we are hoping to attract a strong and diverse pool of applicants.
Each year at the ESIP Winter/January Meeting, we celebrate those who make significant contributions to ESIP, both on an individual and organizational basis. One of the amazing parts of the ESIP Community is that so many make contributions without expecting anything in return. Still, we need your help to identify those deserving of the below awards by 10/31.
The ESIP Partner of the Year Awardhonors a partner organization that exemplifies well the spirit of ESIP in one or more areas. This year, we are looking for partners who have: a) been involved in an activity or interacted with ESIP in a manner that led to an innovation related to Earth science data or information; b) helped the Earth science community use or reuse data in new and creative applications, or c) formed or strengthened collaborations and/or worked to increase the inclusivity and diversity for the ESIP Community.
The Martha Maiden Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding service to the Earth science information community, specifically individuals who have demonstrated leadership, dedication and a collaborative spirit in advancing the field of Earth Science information.

Volunteer as a Data or Software Expert for the Virtual Data Help Desk at GSA 2021, to be hosted during part of GSA 2021 Connects (October 11th-13th, 2021). This event connects researchers with informatics experts familiar with their scientific domain to learn about skills and techniques that will help further their research and make their data and software open and FAIR. Mark Your Calendar for ‘Speaking Up! How Bystanders Can Change the Conversation Around Bias'
As part of our commitment to promote a healthy and inclusive culture within ESIP, we are pleased to be offering three interactive online training opportunities next month. The training will be offered three separate times to maximize participation. Please hold Sept 10th 9am-noon, 2pm-5pm or Sept 27 2-5pm (Eastern times). Cloud Computing Cluster Telecon (8/23 at 1 pm ET): Deep Dive into TileDB
Join ESIP's Cloud Computing Cluster for a Deep Dive into TileDB from Stavros Papadopoulos, CEO and Founder of TileDB. Stavros will provide a deeper dive into TileDB and showcase TileDB in practice through use cases such as SAR with AIS data for dark sheep detection, digital twins with LiDAR and weather simulations with NetCDF time series. Nominate an Organization for ESIP's 2021 Partner of the Year Award (due 10/31)
The Partner of the Year Award honors an ESIP Partner Organization that exemplifies the spirit of ESIP in one or more areas through the sharing of a success story. This award is given annually at the Winter Meeting. The awardee will receive a plaque and two free ESIP meeting registrations. This year, we are looking for partner organizations that have supported the 2021 ESIP theme of Leading Innovation in Earth Science Data Frontiers. We are looking for ESIP partners who have:
Been involved in an activity or interacted with ESIP in a manner that led to an innovation related to Earth science data or information;
Helped the Earth science community use or reuse data in new and creative applications, or
Formed or strengthened collaborations and/or worked to increase the inclusivity and diversity for the ESIP Community.

NCEAS Environmental Data Science Summit (Apply by 9/17)
Environmental Data Science (EDS) is a growing field of interdisciplinary approaches to investigating and answering environmental questions with modern data science tools. The field is broad, diverse, and expanding. This Summit aims to bring together all types of environmental data scientists to lay the foundation for a more cohesive and collaborative transdisciplinary community.
The goals of the Summit, which is to be held February 8-9, 2022 in Santa Barbara, CA, are to build community and foster collaboration within the Environmental Data Science community. CODATA Connect – Data Science Journal Early Career Essay Competition (due 8/31)
CODATA Connect Early Career and Alumni Network in collaboration with the CODATA Data Science Journal (DSJ) is pleased to invite to its second Essay Competition for Early-Career Researchers (ECR), defined as a university undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate students or early career researchers/ data professionals within five years of completing their highest qualification. CODATA Connect exists to ensure a structural and sustained collaboration and support for the activities of the alumni of CODATA-RDA Summer Schools, of the CODATA China and Trieste Training Workshops and other early-career researchers and data professionals involved in the CODATA community and those of partner organizations. Topic for the Essay: “Challenges and Benefits for governments and industry involvement in the Open Data Initiative.” Learn more here.
