Here are 3 things to know this week:

  • Today is the last day to submit a talk idea for Ignite@AGU, a great opportunity to showcase your professional and personal interests through a fast, creative talk.
  • Registration is now open for the ESIP January Meeting (Jan 18-21, 2022, ONLINE). The theme of the meeting will be Data for All People: From Generation to Use and Understanding. If you have any questions, including about the Call for Sessions (DUE in 7 days!) or what other opportunities there may be to share your work and network with others during the meeting, please reply to this note.
  • The call for elected ESIP leadership nominations is now open through 11/15. We thank you for the contributions that you are currently making to ESIP and encourage you to consider nominating yourself or someone else for an elected role. If you have questions about where your skills would be best used or want to learn more about various positions, please reach out to nominations@esipfed.org.

Registration is open for the January 2022 Meeting

Register now for the ESIP January 2022 Meeting that's happening virtually Tuesday, January 18 through Friday, January 21. Early bird registration deadline is Friday December 31, 2021. The theme is Data for All People: From Generation to Use and Understanding.
 

Data for All: Call for Sessions (DUE 11/8)

The session proposal portal for the 2022 ESIP January Meeting (online from January 18-21, 2022) is open now through November 8. 

For more than 20 years, ESIP meetings have brought together the most innovative thinkers and leaders to make Earth science data more discoverable, accessible and useful to researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and the public. See, for example, topics and speakers from the 2021 ESIP July Meeting. We especially welcome session proposals related to ESIP's 2021 theme — Data for All People: From Generation to Use and Understanding. Learn more about the process and timeline to submit a proposal by 11/8.
 

Research Data Alliance Plenary 18 Programme

The ESIP/RDA Space and Environmental Sciences Interest Group session is taking place during Breakout 3 on Wednesday, November 3 starting 22:30 UTC. The title for the ESES-IG P18 session is “New Developments in Earth and Environmental Science Data Infrastructures and Repositories.” Register to attend
 

Who are ESIP's Leaders? Call for Nominations (DUE 11/15)

The ESIP Nominating Committee is organizing nominations for ESIP's elected leadership offices for the 2022 year. If you would like to nominate someone for a position or self-nominate, send your nomination to nominations@esipfed.org. Nominees will be asked to provide a brief bio and statement of interest.

We hope to have a finalized ballot no later than November 15. View the current nominations and ballot.

Inaugural World Data System International Technology Office (WDS-ITO) Data Prize (DUE12/1)

The World Data System is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council promoting universal and equitable access to quality-assured scientific data and associated services. With generous support from Canada’s New Digital Research Infrastructure Organization (NDRIO), the WDS-ITO is running a competition to highlight the use of WDS Regular and Network member data in Virtual Research Environments. Two cash prizes of CAD$1,000 each will be awarded. In addition to the prize, we will recognize the winners in early spring 2022 and highlight their achievements on the WDS website.
 

Celebrate EDGI's Fifth Birthday 🎉

The Environmental Data & Governance Initiative (EDGI) turns five! They're holding a birthday celebration to reflect on accomplishments as they work to envision and enable a future of more just and participatory environmental governance. 
 

Jumpstart Your Sustainability Plan (DUE 12/1)

The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) is offering a free, virtual mini-course on practical and effective steps for developing a sustainability strategy. PIs of research and teaching-focused gateways and their teams to kick off sustainability planning for new grants or existing projects. Register by December 1 and the course runs Monday, December 6 to Wednesday, December 8.
