ESIP is honored to be selected again as a mentoring organization for Google Summer of Code! Google Summer of Code (GSoC) sponsors students to work full-time for 3-months on open source projects during the summer, supervised by a senior contributor from the mentoring organization.

“As usual, we received more applications this year than we did last year, about twice as many as we are able to accept into the program. After careful review, we have chosen 207 open source projects to be mentor organizations this year, 28 of which are new to the program,” says Stephanie Taylor, Google Open Source.

All ESIP member organizations are eligible to submit an idea under the ESIP umbrella. Thus far, ESIP members Axiom Data Science, University of Montana, USGS, George Mason University, and NASA JPL have submitted the following ideas:

How to Participate

Reach into your organization and let individuals/teams know they can submit an idea. You can also encourage a student to participate – have them look at our student instructions before applying.

Students are vetting projects NOW – get your ideas submitted ASAP. Students start to apply to projects on March 26th.
