Community Data Cluster

What we did: Connected users and local data experts to help improve drinking water quality in Flint, Michigan.

Why we did it: Community-based research has the ability to increase the quality of life and stability for at-risk community members.

Community-based research has the ability to increase the quality of life and stability for at-risk community members as well as empower individuals to push for change within their communities (e.g. Parker et al, 2007; Duran et al, 2019). Providing access to resources is just the first step in supporting communities to achieve their goals. Through our work in Flint, we took the first step — and the next steps require deliberate coordination with the Flint community to better align existing data resources with the people who need them.

The work continues: The Community Data Cluster is now merged with the Community Resilience Cluster.
