Wildfire

April 9 @ 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM EDT
Event Series (See All)

The experimental NOAA Next Generation Fire System (NGFS) provides timely satellite-derived information on active fires. Following a successful NOAA Fire Testbed demonstration, forecasters, land managers, and emergency managers began using the NGFS to improve early wildfire detection and near-continuous monitoring of established fires, resulting in significant benefits. To improve access to NGFS products, the NOAA Satellite, Data, and Information Service developed a cloud-hosted Wildland Fire Data Portal. The initial beta release of the Wildland Fire Data Portal includes standard-compliant data services and a map user interface. The NGFS and Wildland Fire Data Portal are expected to be fully operational later in 2026, and both will continue to evolve based on user feedback. This presentation will introduce these new tools to the ESIP Wildfire Cluster community, including examples of their use and applications.
