Transformers for Environmental Science Workshop (Due June 30)
In this international workshop, the organizing team wants to bring researchers from machine learning (ML) and Earth science together to discuss how transformers and related neural networks can lead to progress in Earth science applications. The workshop is September 22 and 23 in Magdeburg, Germany (held in a fortified Gothic tower turned conference center). Abstracts for presentations at the workshop can be submitted until June 30.

AI/ML Ethics Survey (Due July 1)
Help inform ethics guidance on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in research. Existing standards for reproducibility and ethics in research can be challenged by AI and ML. This ethics survey, funded by NASA and conducted by AGU with support from Waymark Analytics, is designed to assess your views around some of these challenges, as well as opportunities looking ahead with these technologies. The results will inform the development of ethical standards for the use of AI and ML in research.
Lacuna Fund Invites Proposals to Develop Inclusive Climate Datasets (Due July 17)
The two funding tracks focus on machine learning datasets for equitable climate outcomes in climate and energy as well as climate and health. Proposals are due July 17 and the Lacuna Fund website has the full requirements and submission portal.
Let’s Talk About Heat Challenge (Due July 22)
EPA has launched the Let’s Talk About Heat Challenge to protect public health by raising awareness of health risks from extreme heat. The challenge seeks innovative solutions that show how communities of different sizes and in different parts of the country create effective communication strategies to inform and warn people of the risks of extreme heat and offer ways to keep safe during the hottest days. The challenge is open now through July 22 and there is an informational webinar on June 22 at 2 p.m. EDT.
Midwest Big Data Hub: Open call for proposals (Due Aug 1)
Midwest Big Data Hub has issued a call for proposals for “Building Data-Enabled Resilient Communities.” The org invites proposals for collaborative activities that will further develop collaborative cross-sector partnerships through the Hub’s Smart & Resilient Communities Priority Area.
