Raskin Scholarship – Applications Due March 25

Founded in honor of Rob Raskin, this scholarship helps support graduate students in the Earth or computer sciences with an interest in community evolution of Earth science data systems. The awardee presents at the July ESIP Meeting (remember last year's inspiring presentation with Colette Brown?)

Cloud Computing: Ask Me Anything (AMA)

The “Bringing Cloud-Native Science Down to Earth” breakout at the 2023 January ESIP Meeting was one of the most popular sessions. Here is a chance to follow up: The Cloud Computing Cluster is hosting an AMA during their monthly call on Monday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. EST. Join via the ESIP Community Calendar.
 

New Wildfires Cluster

Dedicated to open wildfire science and proactive solutions in wildfire management. The new Cluster's first meeting is Wed, March 4 at 4 p.m. EST. Join the conversation and sign up for the group's mailing list.
 

SWEET Working Sessions

Join the ESIP Semantic Tech Committee to work on enhancing the SWEET Ontology — semantic web for Earth and environmental terminology. The group is specifically looking to review candidate term definitions from multiple vocabularies as well as bug fixes. Everyone is welcome to attend; the next session is Wed, March 15 at 4 p.m. EST. Join via the ESIP Community Calendar.

The Pizzigati Prize provides grants to developers making a two-faceted contribution to social change: practical impact and open source. Awarded through NTEN, the application is due Feb 22.
 

New Climate Change Computing Award in Honor of Gordon Bell (April 15)

To highlight and encourage more research focused on modelling the devastating impact of climate change, ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, has established the ACM Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modelling. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2023.
