Share expertise and tools through the Data Help Desk

The Data Help Desk is returning to in-person for the GSA Annual Meeting (Oct 9-12, Denver, CO). Would you be willing to share a demo or answer questions at the Data Help Desk booth? There is also a chance to engage virtually through the @EarthDataHelp #DataHelpDesk feed.

Let us know by this Tuesday (Sept 27)  if you are interested in volunteering at the GSA Data Help Desk in October.

Go Zero Workshops (Oct and Nov)

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) seeks to deliver carbon neutral digital research infrastructure (DRI) by 2040 or earlier. They are hosting a series of workshops (Oct 5, Oct 19, and Nov 2), each focused on a different question, and the organizers want to engage more communities outside the UK. Learn more and sign up on the project website.

Disabilities in Disasters (Oct 4)

Hosted by the All Hazards Consortium, this free webinar at noon EDT covers what actions should be taken to address individuals with disabilities before, during, and after a disaster. Register through the Business Resiliency Virtual Discussion Series.

Accessing and Analyzing Air Quality Data from Geostationary Satellites (Oct 11, 18, and 25)

This will be a three-part webinar series in partnership with NOAA and the National Institute Of Environmental Research (NIER, South Korea) on air quality (AQ) data analysis from geostationary satellites. The webinar series will a) provide an overview of geostationary capabilities for monitoring air quality around the world; b) introduce geostationary aerosol datasets from GOES-East, GOES-West, Himawari 8, and the Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS); and 3) present data access and python tools to read and analyze the datasets. Register with NASA's ARSET program.

Art in Our Worlds Space Apps Challenge (Oct 1)

On Oct. 1-2, tackle the Art in our Worlds NASA International #SpaceApps Challenge to build an application with ML/AI techniques that allow users to input short text phrases and match the input to NASA data or imagery. Learn more about the competition.

AgriFieldNet India Challenge (Oct 31)

The Radiant Earth Foundation and IDinsights Data on Demand team are hosting an open source competition to better understand the role of small farms in global agriculture and carbon cycles. The goal is to classify crop types in agricultural fields across Northern India using multispectral observations from Sentinel-2 satellite. Learn more about the competition details. Submissions are due by Oct 31.

Open Science Survey (Oct 31)

Take the Research Data Alliance's survey on open science to help identify perceptions and expectations regarding how FAIR data, open software, and other open science activities are or should be taken into consideration and incentivized.

Open Science Funding Opportunity (Dec 8)

Transform to Open Science Training (TOPST) solicits proposals to advance open science literacy. This element will support three types of activities: development of ScienceCore materials, implementation of summer schools, and virtual cohorts. Learn more about the timeline and details.
