2009 ESIP Federation Summer Meeting - July 7 - July 10, 2009
The 2009 Summer ESIP Federation Meeting will be held July 7-10, 2009 on the campus of the University of California - Santa Barbara. The meeting will be focused on Stewardship and will feature a blend of plenary, breakout, workshop and open meeting activities.
Venue
The Summer 2009 ESIP Federation will take place at the University of California Santa Barbara. Most of the meeting will take place at the Bren School. Travelers can fly into Santa Barbara (SBA), Los Angeles (LAX) - 1-1/2 hours (longer in traffic) or Burbank (BUR) - 1-1/2 hours. Parking on campus is $8/day for those who are not staying in dorms.
Registration
Registration for the 23rd ESIP Federation meeting is conducted online. Early Bird registration continues through May 29 and is $325 (member) or $425 (non-members). Regular and on-site registration is $425 (member) or $525 (non-member). A special student rate is offered for $100. Registration for the meeting is done online by clicking here and is done using Visa/MasterCard. Limited on-site registration will be available.
Lodging
Lodging for the 2009 Summer Meeting is being met by campus housing in Manzanita Village (dorms overlook the ocean). The dorms are secured when you register for the meeting with a limited number of single (SOLD OUT) and double ($191.40 for four nights) rooms available. Additionally, given the scarcity of single dorm rooms, we are now offering the double rooms with a single occupancy option ($382.80). Dorm room prices cannot be prorated, refunded once reserved and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is included in your dorm rate. Dorms must be booked by May 29.
Additional lodging is offered 15-20 minutes away at the Upham Hotel. The Upham is a city inn within close walking distance to downtown Santa Barbara. A small block of rooms is being held until May 22. The cost per room is $125/night (plus 12% tax). Use the ESIP/Bren code when calling to reserve your room at 805.962.0058.
Program

Technical Workshops Day
On Tuesday, July 7 we will offer a series of techncial workshops. Check the wiki for topics being offered.
Poster Session
There will be a poster session all day on July 8 that culminates with a reception (and continuing poster session) the same evening. Posters must be no larger than 3' x 4' (height x width). Abstracts are submitted when you register for the meeting.
Open Meeting Day
On Thursday, July 9 we will offer our popular Open Meeting Day. This day allows any meeting attendee to offer a breakout session on any topic they want to bring to their peers. Visit the ESIP Federation wiki for the growing list of topics being presented or to offer your own.
FUNding Friday
On Friday, July 10 we will offer the 2nd annual FUNding Friday mini-grant competition. Novel technical and other project ideas are invited to submit proposals (hand-written okay), make a 2-minute pitch to the crowd and await the decisions. Three $5,000 mini-grants will be offered again this summer. For the first time, we also are offering a student competition focused on education product development.
