You do not need to stay the whole time, but we do need to see everyone's presentation at least once.
Ignite is a new format to many people ⏤ and we are here to set you up for success. All of our feedback is offered to help you shine, but the real ✨ onstage is all you.
We need your slides by Sunday, Dec 10
We have to work some behind-the-scenes magic, too. So, please send your PowerPoint slides in 16:9 landscape orientation (with no themes or backgrounds) to email@example.com by 6 p.m. EST Sunday, December 11.
Quick reminder: Ignite format is exactly 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds, which makes your talk precisely five minutes long. Big images and a script are encouraged.
Few other things to keep in mind:
Intro Slide: You do not need one in your slides. We will create one for each speaker and the emcee will introduce you. That helps you jump right into your talk.
Behind You! It's your slides! Okay, joking aside, you will NOT have a monitor or your slides in front of you. It's one of the reasons practicing is important; you can glance back or gesture to a slide but you do not want to speak to the slides instead of your audience.
Be quick: Auto-advancing every 15 seconds feels short. It can also feel a bit jerky for an audience if your thoughts jump with the slides. So, if there is an image or message you want to linger on, then duplicate the slide ⏤ two slides gives you 30 sec, three slides is 45 sec, four is one minute, and on.
Script length? Can vary person-to-person depending on how quickly you speak. Here is a word count tool or simply record yourself talking for a minute to find a general word count to help you wrangle your script. More or less: One sentence and idea per slide.
Copyright: Make sure to use images properly. Include a small text citation in the bottom corner if you need to. Not sure? Feel free to ask in the practice session.
Thank you so much for all the work you have done so far and for your willingness to challenge yourself and share your enthusiasm!
The Ignite audience is a caring and supportive community. You have already succeeded by signing up and practicing. Now you just get to have fun!
