ESIP Meeting Announcements

Flood Update

While we are excited to gather with you this week (virtually or in Burlington), we continue to be mindful of the floods affecting Vermont communities. So far, our venue and air travel have not been significantly impacted, but roads, rails, local businesses, and communities have been. Meeting attendees will get updates as needed via email.

Schedule

See the full schedule and make your own agenda: 2023julyesipmeeting.sched.com. Sched is also where we will post recordings, notes, and resources after the meeting.

Also, here is the Know Before You Go info.

*Note: There will be no ESIP Update next week since our team will be all hands on deck for the ESIP Meeting.

FUNding Friday + NASA News Highlight

“We spell FUNding Friday with a capital F-U-N since we want it to be a fun, creative, exciting experience at the end of the Summer Meeting,” says Susan Shingledecker, ESIP executive director. “We want it to be the catalyst that takes a great idea or a brainstorm that happens in a session or in a hallway conversation and creates the incentive to move an idea forward.”

One of the quotes from the NASA Earth Science Division write up about one of last year's FUNding Friday projects led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

As our ESIP Lab Director, Annie Bryant Burgess, regularly points out: Microfunding and seed funding is a critical part of the innovation and research cycle in Earth science data. FUNding Friday is a (fun) aspect of that work. The community-focused poster making and voting process provides a way to bring in more teachers, graduate students, and interdisciplinary connections than traditional funding models.

Stay tuned via #ESIP2023 on Friday for this year's projects.
