ESIP Offices Closed

The secret to productivity is rest. The ESIP staff will be unplugged and out of the office Friday, Dec 22 and Monday, Dec 25. There will be no ESIP Update next week. Then the team will be out again Friday, Dec 29 and Monday, Jan 1. The ESIP Update will resume Tuesday, Jan 2.

Early Registration Closes on Friday

Early registration is open through Dec 22 for the all-virtual 2024 January ESIP Meeting.  You can register up until the start of the meeting, which runs Tuesday, Jan 23 through Friday, Jan 26. 
 

Registration Assistance Due Jan 5

In addition to early registration rates, we offer a need-based, limited pool of full and partial fee waivers. That includes our Expanding Access to ESIP Scholarship for students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and Latino/a/x. Send in an ESIP Meeting Registration Assistance form or reach out to staff@esipfed.org. All applications are due Jan 5.

NASA Launches New Open Science Curriculum 

NASA released its free Open Science 101 curriculum to empower researchers, early career scientists, and underrepresented communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to embrace open science practices. It also helps prepare researchers to incorporate required open science data management plans when applying for NASA grant funding.

Joint Statement on Research Data

STM, DataCite and Crossref have announced an updated joint statement on research data, calling on the community to endorse best practices to accelerate adoption of data sharing and data citation. Individuals can endorse the statement as well as download and share the infographic.
 

Reviewers needed for NSF Geoinformatics

The National Science Foundation's Geoinformatics (GI) program is looking for reviewers for proposals submitted to the GI solicitation, NSF 23-594. Submit a 10-question survey to be considered. 
 

NSF Public Access Plan 2.0 (Jan 2)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking public input from the science and engineering research and education community on implementing NSF Public Access Plan 2.0. Ensuring Open, Immediate and Equitable Access to National Science Foundation Funded Research (NSF 23-104). The survey closes at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on January 2.
 

M. Lee Allison Geoinformatics Award (Feb 28)

This award is granted annually by the Geological Society of America Geoinformatics Division for outstanding contributions to geosciences through the application of the principles of Geoinformatics. Nominations are due by Feb 28.
