Finance Committee Chair
Helen Conover, a research scientist with the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Information Technology and Systems Center (UAH ITSC), has over twenty-five years of experience in Earth science data systems. She has played a leading role with NASA’s Global Hydrology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) since 1991. She currently serves as the GHRC’s Operations Manager, overseeing all aspects of the data center, including data acquisition, management, documentation, archive and distribution; implementation and maintenance of hardware and software infrastructure; development and deployment of user tools. The GHRC DAAC is managed jointly by the Earth Science Office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and ITSC; it is the NASA Earth science data center responsible for hazardous weather, its governing dynamical and physical processes, and associated applications. Conover has been involved in ESIP since the beginning. Throughout 1999-2002 she served as Chair or Vice-Chair of the Interoperability Standing Committee (now Information Technology and Interoperabilty), and in 2015-16 she was the ESIP II representative on the Finance and Appropriations Committee.
