Hello World! Round Two for Johanna

Hello World! Round Two with the Education Committee

My name is Johanna Bozuwa, and I am a second year ESIP Fellow. I’m very excited to be on board again this year with the Education Committee! Last year we taught teachers how to use drones in their places of education, and this year we are taking on ten minute talks that can act as learning lunches for teachers.

In addition, I will continue to work with the newest ESIP cluster, the Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN). This new cluster is committed to creating a community for educators to collaborate around climate literacy, and effectively create collective action. At last year’s UN Conference of the Parties (COP) 22 in Marrakech, we also helped in instigating an international community on climate literacy, ECONGO, to further the Paris climate deal’s commitment to education, training, and empowerment. I help out in coordinating that work, too!

I am a student at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands where I study Sustainable Business and Innovation. A lot of our focus is on how to utilize systems thinking to redefine the economy. My research is on how we can enable a just energy transition, specifically on how renewable community power can generate justice and equity in low income communities. I am integrating innovation systems and social justice theory to use as a model for my work. Though I’m based in the Netherlands now, I’m moving back over in July to do a case study on Washington, DC for my thesis with a group called Democracy Collaborative.

I’m looking forward to another exciting year at ESIP.  If you ever want to talk about education, climate literacy, climate justice, or just about anything related to climate, let me know! I’m your gal.
