The Foundation for Earth Science

The Foundation for Earth Science (“Foundation”), a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation, was established in 2001 to support scientific programs and organizations that collect, process and analyze science-based Earth science information for a broad range of users. It is dedicated to bringing the most current and reliable data and data products to bear on the environmental, economic and social challenges facing our home planet.

Through an on-going Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (“ESIP Federation”), the Foundation acts as the ESIP Federation’s secretariat and operates its nation-wide network composed of NASA and NOAA data centers, research universities and laboratories, education providers, technology developers and commercial and non-profit organizations that provides both Earth science researchers and policy makers with the information that they need to understand our world and make informed decisions. Together, the Foundation and ESIP Federation are leading the way to help bring data from research to operational use.
